Our recent clients in Arlington, Texas came to us with three problems that needed solving: they needed additional storage space, a place to keep their beautiful tropical plants during the winter months, and a covered area to park their vehicles. The existing 2-car garage helped some with these issues, but with their vehicles inside, the garage became overly crowded. After chatting with our design team and considering the options, utilizing the spacious driveway made perfect sense! The addition of a large carport would provide ample shelter for their 3 vehicles while also allowing their garage to be converted into a storage space and winter house for their plants. This concept checked all the boxes, allowing them to ‘kill three birds with one stone!’
Before:
The existing side-entry garage was positioned perfectly for a carport addition. Although the property had an angled retaining wall just to the left of the driveway, there was still plenty of room for a carport that would comfortably fit 2 cars, and 3 cars if needed, when the weather is bad.
Plans & Renderings:
In order to accommodate three cars, we needed to maximize the space available. With a fence and a retaining wall coming into the space at different angles, the new carport was moved forward from the back wall to get the maximum size available.
The clients showed us an inspiration photo that had a partial gable to create some architectural interest. Of course, it is always our designers’ top priority to ensure any home addition we design is created to match the style of the existing structure. Using their inspiration and mimicking the architectural features of the existing home, our draftsman created realistic renderings so the clients could clearly visualize the final look.
The completed designs showcased the updated roofline and beautiful entry doors that would be added to the newly created storage room.
Construction:
The plans were engineered to withstand high winds and then were approved by the city, giving us the go-ahead to start construction.
Our carpenters installed the engineered beams and trusses, then cut in the rafters for the attachment, decorative gable, overhangs and trim for a perfect match to the existing home.
Completed Project:
The completed carport looks as though it has always been a part of our client’s home! The beautiful structure is complimented with a set of sleek black doors, selected by our talented Interior Designer, Stephanie, which a touch of class and elegance to the exterior. Large fluorescent bulbs were installed for ample lighting, day or night, and the original concrete driveway was replaced with pavers for a custom feel.
The carport is a beautiful, functional addition to our client’s home! They are extremely happy with the result and are grateful our team was able to solve their storage and plant dilemma!
