An Open & Airy Guest Bath Suited for Two

Guest bathroom remodels are frequently among the top items on our client’s wish lists. It might not seem as important as the kitchen or the master bathroom, but when you consider that the guest bathroom is what all of your guests use upon visiting your home, you can’t help but want it to look nice. On top of aesthetic appeal, you also want the space to be functional. In many cases, the homes that we remodel are at least 20-30 years old, and the bathrooms are not only outdated, but also have plumbing issues, poor lighting, broken or missing tile, and eroded fixtures – not ideal for guests or prolonged visitors! Our recent clients in Arlington, Texas had similar issues and chose to include the guest bathroom remodel with some other projects we were completing throughout their home. Read more

4 Benefits of Completing a Room Addition

Room additions are a common request we get from our clients. The main reason being that many homeowners would rather add on to their home than jump through the hoops of buying a new home, selling their current home, and go through everything that has to take place in between. Unfortunately, adding on to an existing structure tends to be much more expensive than most people expect. Along with the hefty price tag, completing a room addition also requires a good amount of time, planning, designing, and construction. Even a room without additional plumbing still requires a foundation, adequate structural support, electrical lines, and a tie-in to the roofline. It’s essential that each of these components be done correctly and to code. However, if a you do your research and hire a professional design build firm (like Medford Remodeling) to complete the project, a room addition can be well worth the investment for your forever home.

Here are the top benefits of a room addition:

1. Create Needed Space

Any home remodeling project is completed with three objectives in mind: to improve aesthetic appeal, to improve efficiency, and to create more usable space. When a room is added to the home, the number one benefit is the gaining extra space that the existing home is lacking. Whether your family is growing, you plan on hosting guests more often, you’re transitioning to a home office, or you just need more space for hobbies and leisure, a room addition can make an otherwise crowded home into the perfect size to meet your needs.

Increased storage space is another perk of completing a room addition. Extra closets can be included in the design, as well as features like built-in cabinetry or bookshelves. Acquiring needed space will not only make your home feel less crowded, but the added storage space will help it feel more organized.

The laundry room is an important functional space in the home. Often times, it is set up poorly and lacks storage space, counters, and good lighting. This was exactly the problem faced by our recent clients in Arlington, Texas. Their original laundry room was a good size, but the lack of counter space inhibited organization and resulted in random laundry baskets and clothes piled on the floor. Our designers were able to resolve this problem by reworking the space and adding ample cabinetry, pull-out laundry bins, large countertops, clothes racks, and more! Check out this beautiful transformation on our blog! Read more

4 Things to Remember when Designing your Kitchen Work Triangle

Kitchen remodels are one of the most common remodeling projects we complete. In many instances, our clients are interested in removing walls or changing the layout of the kitchen to better meet their needs. Because so much time is spent in the kitchen each day, it makes sense to have an efficient and functional layout. You wouldn’t want the fridge too far from the cooktop. Likewise, you wouldn’t want the sink to be on the other side of the island, away from the fridge. Keeping these three items – the sink, cooktop and refrigerator—within a space known as the “work triangle” creates the ideal efficient floor plan for any kitchen layout.
