It’s Time to Get Your Home Ready for Spring!

I had noticed the rain and warmer temperatures we’ve had the last few weeks had helped some of the grasses and weeds start to grow, and I can’t believe we are seeing flying bugs in mid-January. These are signs that spring will be here before we know it. Now is a great time to get your home and yard ready for spring. Here are a few ideas to consider, giving you a head start so you can get the most out of the Spring season and protect your home in the process:

  • Look at the vegetation that surrounds your home and make sure when it starts growing it won’t be touching your home, or growing over or under it. Read this blog for more ideas on how to maintain the vegetation around your home. Mother Nature Is Trying To Eat Your House
  • Look closely at the paint on your house. Is it chalky? Is the caulking cracked in multiple places? Is there any peeling? Is there any raw wood? If so, now is the time to paint. Don’t wait until the spring rains soak the exposed wood and the summer heat bakes the moisture out.
  • Plan and create a back yard focal point. Now is a great time to build a garden pond, deck, patio, patio cover, or outdoor kitchen garden. Something as simple as building a berm with fresh soil now will give you a head start and allow you to plant interesting plants when the time comes.
  • Make sure the walkways are safe. Adjust stepping stones, fix deck boards, and make sure there are no trip steps in concrete walks.
  • Start a vegetable garden. In north Texas, the next two weekends are best for planting vegetables like potatoes, onions, carrots and radishes. Leafy vegetables also do well this time of year. This is a great time to visit your local feed store—Marshall Grain in Fort Worth is a terrific resource—for supplies and tips. They have everything needed for the garden plus educational materials. Double-Drawer Dishwasher Review and a Few Tips to Extend the Life of your Dishwasher

One of our clients called me last week and asked what I thought of double-drawer dishwashers. My answer to him was that it is a “lifestyle” appliance.

The lifestyle the double-drawer dishwasher fits is a household that has one or two people living in it. If your lifestyle fits a double-drawer dishwasher, it is a time-saving device. If your lifestyle doesn’t fit the double-drawer dishwasher, it will be a continuous source of frustration for you. You are going to either love it or hate it. Read more
