Our recent clients in Arlington, Texas came to us with three problems that needed solving: they needed additional storage space, a place to keep their beautiful tropical plants during the winter months, and a covered area to park their vehicles. The existing 2-car garage helped some with these issues, but with their vehicles inside, the garage became overly crowded. After chatting with our design team and considering the options, utilizing the spacious driveway made perfect sense! The addition of a large carport would provide ample shelter for their 3 vehicles while also allowing their garage to be converted into a storage space and winter house for their plants. This concept checked all the boxes, allowing them to ‘kill three birds with one stone!’
Replacing your home’s siding probably isn’t the first of your priorities; unless there’s an urgent problem, most people don’t think about it too often. However, replacing worn-out, cracked, or leaking siding is very important in the prevention of more serious (and expensive!) future home repairs. If you haven’t checked your home’s exterior siding in a while, now is a good time!
Here are 7 warning signs it might be time to replace your siding:
Believe it or not, door installations are one of the more complex projects that we do. You might think it’s simple to swap out an existing door for a new one, but there truly is a lot of detail that goes into it. Over the years, our team has perfected the task to a seamless process. Here are some of our favorite door installation projects we have completed:
Decorative Iron Entry Doors
Decorative iron doors are a popular choice for clients looking to improve the exterior of their home. These beautiful doors come in a wide variety of styles and finishes and can make a stunning first impression. Not only do they provide wow-factor curb appeal, but they also add value to your home and improve security.
We were recently able to help a client breathe new life into his outdoor living area by installing patio doors for him, just in time for spring!
Previously, the client’s living room was a dark and closed off, and did not allow direct access to his newly paved patio just on the other side of the exterior wall. The outside space was just as plain, with a blank brick wall alongside his new patio.
With the help of Nix Door & Hardware, we selected a French door entry to match the style of his home and provide a great view of his outdoor space from the living room.
Installing a deck can make all the difference when it comes to entertaining guests and utilizing your outdoor space. Just think, that big, empty yard that turns to mud when it rains, or that less-than-attractive concrete patio outside the back door, could be transformed into a stunning, multifunctional deck!
If a deck installation seems like the perfect solution to your backyard woes, don’t start building just yet – there are some helpful tips to be aware of when it comes to outdoor decking:
Many homeowners don’t consider winter as a good time to get home repairs and improvement projects done. Understandably so, as the busy holiday season can be a hectic time for everyone (not to mention the cold, wet weather that comes along with it!). However, the winter can be an ideal time to complete those projects you’ve been sitting on. Not convinced? Here are 5 reasons winter is the best time to do home improvement projects:
1. Contractor Availability: Because most people do not invest in major home projects during the winter, contractors have increased availability during this time, making it more convenient for you to schedule a time to meet with them. This also provides for a quicker timeline for your project to be completed, unlike during the busy spring or summer when scheduling construction may be pushed out several weeks, or months!
Installing an iron front entry door is one of the best ways to improve the appearance of your home’s exterior. These beautiful doors come in various styles, decorative patterns, and colors, which provide for a unique way to customize your home.
Aside from adding visual appeal and elegance to your home, these doors offer a number of other benefits:
Increased Home Value
Iron entry doors not only make your home look more expensive, but also add value should you ever decide to sell. Having a striking iron door installed will make your home and neighborhood look nicer and provide a lasting impression on home buyers, which may increase the amount of money they are willing to pay.
For many homeowners, the term curb appeal brings to mind landscaping, exterior painting, or just general sprucing up, like replacing a fence or cleaning out the gutters. These are all great home improvement options, but there is another choice that is easily forgotten: outdoor lighting.
Installing outdoor lighting is one of the best ways to increase curb appeal of your home, while also providing several other benefits. Here are 6 great reasons to invest in outdoor lighting:
1. Display with Spotlights
If you’ve spent a lot of time (and money) getting your home’s landscaping just right, why not show it off? Strategically placed lights can highlight the beautiful aspects of your front and backyards, including plants or trees, walkways, architecture or water features.
Summer is a great time to enjoy your yard and outdoor space. With the warm temperatures and longer days, it’s the ideal time to host cookouts, pool parties, and get-togethers with your friends and family. Unfortunately, not all backyards are initially set up to entertain, which can really hinder your outdoor party plans! One solution to this problem is to have a deck installed.
Decks can benefit almost every house in many different ways. Here are seven of the best ways decks can improve your home:
We recently had the pleasure of designing and installing a custom putting green in a client’s backyard. The client loves golf, and wanted to be able to practice putting in the convenience of his own back yard. This project was a lot of fun, and really turned out great!
Before getting started, we talked to the client about what he had in mind and then created a rough sketch of the design.
Once the design was approved on paper, we laid down the outline on the grass to make sure we had the shape just right, while allowing plenty of space for traffic and surrounding landscaping.
