Remodeling for Elderly Parents: 5 Age-in-Place Options to Consider

There are many reasons homeowners choose to remodel, from updating aesthetics, to improving functionality, to increasing resale value. Another common request we receive is for assistance in making accommodations for elderly parents. This can either involve our clients remodeling their own home to allow for parents to move in or remodeling their parent’s home to prepare for aging-in-place. Either situation can be difficult, as making provisions for elderly parents can be stressful and emotional. Our goal in assisting with age-in-place remodeling is to simplify the process for both the clients and their parents to make for the best experience possible! Read more

Mike’s Guys Handyman: The Ease of a Free Virtual Estimate

If there is one common complaint we’ve heard from homeowners throughout the years, it is that they struggled to find a contractor or handyman that would follow-up after their initial conversation. Unfortunately, homeowners are often forced to deal with the frustration of waiting for an estimate that never comes. If you’ve ever experienced a disappearing contractor or non-responsive handyman service, you know how infuriating it is to be seemingly forgotten about when you’re trying to get a project done. 6 Home Projects to Plan for in 2021

If you haven’t done much upkeep in your home for several years, it might feel overwhelming to know where to start. Aside from a major, full-gut remodel in a kitchen or bathroom, there are many smaller projects that can be completed to contribute to a more modern look overall.

Aesthetically speaking, minor upgrades here and there can really make a big impact in your home as a whole as time goes by. One way to go about this is to choose a handful of small projects to complete independently throughout the year, resulting in a beautifully updated home over time. For example, refreshing the interior paint in the spring and replacing dated carpet with a solid-surface flooring in the fall can provide for a modern, updated look come holiday season. It may not be realistic for you to do everything at once, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with tackling small projects individually to slowly transform your dated home! Read more

Why You Need a Custom Design Package for Your Kitchen Remodel

There are a lot of variables that come into play during a kitchen remodel. The size and state of the existing kitchen, the complexity of the project, the features and amenities to be included, the structural changes that need to be made, and of course, the intended use of the remodeled space by the homeowners – that is, determining what modifications will most effectively solve the homeowner’s current issues with their kitchen. These variables are different for every project: perhaps the existing kitchen is too small and lacks storage space or the layout is dysfunctional. Maybe a remodel was started with a contractor who did things incorrectly or failed to finish the job, leaving the kitchen completely unusable. Because each of these scenarios has a different starting point and involves a different course of action to meet the homeowner’s needs, they each require their own customized design plan. Read more

Mike’s Guys Handyman: 5 Signs it’s Time to Replace Your Windows

Replacing windows is among home maintenance projects that can make a huge impact on both the functionality and the value of your home. As with anything, it’s better to maintain properly working windows and replace them regularly, versus waiting until you have multiple failed windows on your hands! Here are 5 signs of window failure to look out for, via our handyman division, Mike’s Guys:

1. Poor Operation. A common issue with aging windows is that they stick when opening and closing. This is often caused by a balancing issue in which dust, dirt, pollen, or other buildup becomes lodged in the tracks. In some cases, cleaning out the tracks can help with sticking, but usually this is a sign that the window will need to be replaced soon. Read more

An Inspiring Shed Transformation

Recently, we had some clients from Burleson, TX, contact us with a unique request: they wanted to convert an existing storage shed into a greenhouse-style potting shed. With retirement on the horizon, they hoped to pursue more of their favorite hobbies, which include gardening. They knew their existing 16×24 storage building had some great potential after seeing a garden shed our team designed for a friend of theirs several years ago. After discussing their hopes and ideas for the shed, our team was able to bring their project to life! See the full story on our blog post. Read more

These kinds of projects are a nice change of pace and allow our designers to not only get creative, but also exercise critical thinking and problem-solving. It’s always fun to see the end result and what our team comes up with! Read more

A Nature-Inspired Guest Bathroom Renovation

There are typically two types of homeowners we work with: those that buy a newer home and want to remodel it promptly before moving in, and those that buy an older home with the intention of updating it over the span of several years. The latter describes our long-time clients in Fort Worth, TX.

The home was built in the 1950’s, and our clients moved in about 20 years ago with hopes to make it uniquely theirs a little bit at a time. Our team remodeled their kitchen first, and then added on a master bathroom at the back of the house more recently. This year, the clients were ready to address the guest bathroom that had been at the bottom of their list for quite some time. See the full story on this project on our blog. Read more
