AISD Trades Competition: Building the Future

Medford Remodeling proudly supported the Arlington ISD Trades Competition, an exciting event designed to give high school students real-world experience in the skilled trades industry. Organized by Chris Grimaldo, the Principles of Construction teacher at Arlington High School, the competition brought together students from both Arlington and Bowie High Schools. The Bowie students, led by their teacher Devin Gerrity, joined Arlington students in a timed building challenge to showcase their skills.

During the competition, six teams of five students each were tasked with constructing either a doghouse or a picnic table from start to finish. Three teams from AHS built doghouses, while three teams from BHS built picnic tables, competing within their respective project categories. Teachers were not allowed to assist, ensuring students had to rely on their own skills, problem-solving, and teamwork to complete their builds within the four-hour timeframe.

Medford Remodeling donated personal protective equipment (PPE) and volunteered on-site, and we were proud to serve alongside the other companies in the community that rallied behind this event. Several local restaurants stepped up to support the students by donating breakfast and lunch, making sure they had the energy to power through their projects.

“This event is a fantastic way to highlight the importance of skilled trades education,” said Michael, Medford Remodeling President“Watching these students take on real building projects with confidence and determination was truly inspiring. We’re honored to support them as they take their first steps into the industry.”

The Arlington ISD Trades Competition demonstrated the importance of hands-on learning, practical experience, and community involvement in preparing students for future careers in construction and skilled trades. We’re excited to continue supporting initiatives like this and look forward to seeing these young builders grow into future professionals!
