A Jack & Jill bathroom is a shared bathroom that connects two bedrooms, typically designed for siblings or family members. It features entrances from both bedrooms, each side with its own vanity space, and a shared room in the middle including a shower and toilet. This layout is practical for families, providing a convenient solution for shared living spaces.
Our recent clients in Colleyville, Texas, came back to us as repeat clients just years after we had the pleasure of remodeling their master bathroom. They had been telling us since their first project that they were going to address the upstairs Jack & Jill bath, so we were thrilled to hear they were ready to get it done!
As with most Jack & Jills, the separate spaces of this bathroom were quite small, as shown in the floor plan:
Because of the narrow layout and it’s location in the home, it was not an option to modify the floor plan. Keeping the same footprint meant designs were not required, allowing for the project to be managed by our Small Projects Division – Mike’s Guys.
Our Mike’s Guys team handles a wide variety of home maintenance projects, repairs, and updates, including small “pull-and-replace” remodels. These types of remodels involve keeping the existing footprint while replacing features such as cabinets, countertops, hardware, tile, lighting, etc. Due to the simple nature of “pull-and-replace” projects, they do not require the full design package, plans, and renderings that would accompany a more complex remodel. For this reason, this option is typically a more cost-friendly option for many homeowners.
Although this project was a simple “pull-and-replace”, the end result was a stunning transformation with a luxurious feel!
The first noticeable change in the space as a whole is a brighter, more modern color palette. The dated striped wallpaper was removed along with the original builder-grade lights, mirror, and vanity.
Our clients loved the selection items we used in their master bathroom, so they wanted to match it as best as possible. The shaker-style cabinets, brushed nickel hardware, and blue and white paint colors replicate what was used in the master bath.
The center room features a re-vamped linen closet for convenient storage, along with a new over-the-toilet cabinet.
The biggest transformation in this space is the show-stopping new shower! The original shower-tub combo was replaced with a spacious frameless glass shower, sleek floor-to-ceiling subway tile, and brushed nickel hardware.
The accent tile inside the shampoo niche creates an eye-catching display of depth and texture to break up the smoothness of the subway tile and tie in with the color scheme of the space.
Our client originally wanted “octagon-dot” style flooring, but our Senior Interior Designer, Stephanie, was able to find a basketweave mosaic tile that fit perfectly with the new aesthetic. Our client was thrilled to see how beautifully it matched and brought everything together!
The vanity space on the other side replicates the first, with the same custom cabinetry, hardware, sconces, and decorative mirror.
One of our favorite features in this bathroom is the hidden outlets inside the drawers and below the sink to keep the countertops clutter-free!
The completed project is just what the clients imagined, and it flows beautifully with the rest of their home! Our Mike’s Guys team did a phenomenal job matching the aesthetic of the new Jack & Jill bathroom to that of the master bathroom.
