A Rustic Fireplace Gets an Elegant New Look

Check out this beautiful fireplace we recently remodeled for our clients in Arlington!

The client’s original fireplace featured a rustic, dated natural stone with heavy built-in wood shelves and a matching mantle. While it wasn’t the worst fireplace we’ve seen, it definitely needed a refresh to create the updated vision the clients had for their home.

Our designers discussed options to give the fireplace a more modern look, while still keeping its original footprint and built-in shelving. We then created detailed wall elevations and 3-D renderings to provide the clients with a visual of how the new fireplace would look once complete.

A beautiful 4” Austin-cut stone was selected to replace the original stone. Unlike many of the fireplace remodels we’ve done, this fireplace used real stone instead of the usual cultured stone (synthetic manufactured veneers).

We also installed a custom cedar log mantle with a beautiful black walnut stain, providing nice contrast against the white stone. To enhance the appearance even more, we added LED lighting behind the mantle.

The bookcase was also backlit with LED lighting, and the heavy shelves were replaced with wood-trimmed glass shelves for a lighter, brighter look.

In this photo, you can see what an eye-catching focal point the remodeled fireplace is! You can also see the beautiful vinyl plank flooring that we installed in the living room and throughout the rest of the house. Not only does the flooring provide a more modern look, but it’s also safer now that the step-down into the living room has been leveled with the rest of the home. Strategically placed can lights brighten the space and create a shadow-less environment, also contributing to a safer home. The living room feels more open as well, thanks to the large pass through we installed, displaying the newly remodeled kitchen.

The finished living room is a bright, modern space with an elegant yet rustic feel. Our clients could not be happier with their remodel, and will definitely be enjoying their new fireplace this winter! Great job to everyone on the Medford Remodeling Team that helped create this beautiful finished product, and thanks to our awesome photographer, Todd Ramsey at Impressia, for capturing these final shots!

As a design-build firm that offers a wide range of services, we often have clients that are interested in renovating more than one area in their home. Based on the client’s priorities and budget, we can either complete multiple projects at the same time, or do them separately, giving us the opportunity to work with the same clients time and time again. We love completing whole-house remodels and multiple projects in one go around, but we also appreciate our repeat clients that continue to choose us for their ongoing projects!

With these clients, the best option for them was to tackle all of their projects at once. Along with remodeling their living room and fireplace and replacing the flooring throughout the house, we were able to completely gut and remodel their kitchen, master bathroom, and guest bathroom. You can check out the kitchen project here, and stay tuned for the post on the bathrooms!
