On Saturday, March 21, 2015, the Eunice Activity Center in Arlington will be hosting a Family Fun Day and Chili Cook-off benefitting Survivors on Purpose, Inc. (SOP).
This non-profit organization is made up of breast cancer survivors, caretakers, families and supporters who are faithful advocates for all women that are impacted by this diagnosis. Focused on raising community awareness about Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), SOP aims to form partnerships and alliances with researchers, scientists, doctors and medical educators in their efforts to identify root causes of triple-negative breast cancer. Their inspiring goal is to eliminate the fear and silence about breast cancer and replace it with knowledge about TNBC that is prevalent in the African American community.
The event is open to the general public and will offer a taste of some delicious chili recipes, as well as a fun time with games and family activities, such as: face painting, a hot dog roast, a bounce house, and more. A local community men’s club will be among the volunteers and chili cook-off competitors. If you’re interested in competing with your own chili recipe, the team fee is $25. Prizes include: Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice and Best Booth Display. Registration to compete in the chili cook-off closes on March 15, 2015.
Admission is free for children 5 and under, and $10 for adults at the door, or $8 in advance via online purchase.
The event takes place from 12:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 1001 Eunice Street, Arlington, TX 76010 at the Eunice Activity Center. All proceeds provide 100% of the money that SOP uses for workshops, expos, social activities, and breast cancer education.
