A Craftsman-Style Door Replacement in Arlington

Medford Remodeling has long been associated with luxury remodeling and large-scale renovations. However, that’s not all we do! Our small projects division, Mike’s Guys, handles smaller projects such as repairs, maintenance, and pull-and-replace remodels. They also address various exterior projects, like siding repairs, exterior painting, and window and door replacements.

This client’s West Arlington home was built in 1994 and had the original front door intact. While the existing door was functional, the homeowners wanted to replace it with a more modern unit for an updated aesthetic. They chose a Craftsman-style Masonite unit with side lites. The scope of work involved removing the existing door, trim, and frame, and installing the new ones, followed by painting the inside and outside. Read more

Mike’s Guys Handyman: Why Gutter Maintenance Matters

As a homeowner, there are many steps you can take to keep your home’s exterior in good shape. Replacing old siding, trimming away vegetation, and routinely checking the shingles for damage are a few examples. Each of these tasks will help keep your home structurally sound, keeping out things like problem-causing water and pests. One of the easier home maintenance projects that might be overlooked is maintaining the gutter system.

Your gutters are a safeguard to prevent rainwater from pooling at your home’s foundation, causing flooding and damage. They are designed to drain water out and away from your house. However, if they become blocked with leaves and other debris, they can quickly become more of a problem than a solution. The frequent storms throughout the Spring and trees shedding their leaves in the Fall result in the two times of the year when it’s most critical to have clean gutters. Failure to maintain your gutters could have drastic consequences! If you don’t think it’s a big deal and that rainwater will eventually wash away any debris, here are some of the issues you may find yourself dealing with down the road: Read more

Mike’s Guys: How Do I Refinish A Popcorn Ceiling Myself?

We recently shared a post on 3 options for getting rid of popcorn ceilings. There are a few different ways to approach it, including hiring a professional (like Mike’s Guys) or installing beadboard sheets over the popcorn for a cleaner look. Of course, if you have settled on the idea of tackling the project on your own, we thought it would be helpful to have a step-by-step guide explaining how to scrape and refinish your ceilings.

Before You Start…

As mentioned in our initial post, before you start scraping away, it’s important to test your ceiling for asbestos. Homes built prior to 1980 potentially contain this dangerous substance in the ceiling, which could be a hazard to your health if inhaled. You can easily scrape off a section and send the sample by mail to an asbestos testing lab for a small fee. If asbestos is present, it will be necessary to hire a company that specializes in removing materials containing the substance rather than trying to do it yourself! Read more

Mike’s Guys: Can I Paint My Home’s Exterior in the Winter?

It is a beautiful time of year in North Texas. Many of the days are brisk in the morning, warming up to 70 or so during the day, and then cooling off again in the evening – just cool enough to be comfortable and maybe leave the AC off overnight (hello, lower electric bill!) However, if you’ve lived in Texas any length of time, you know the weather can be pretty unpredictable. Just last week, we had a few days with low temperatures in the mid 30’s! While it has warmed up since, it’s certain that we’ll have more colder-than-normal days leading up to winter. Read more

Our featured project blog for the month of March is our recent master bathroom remodel we completed in Keller, Texas. Our client’s beautiful home was built in 2005, but unfortunately, was constructed with poor-quality materials. The clients knew it was past-due for a remodel and had a list of features they’d been considering for the renovation. With their priorities in mind, our team came up with a sleek new design to improve the aesthetics and functionality of the bathroom. The finished project is truly stunning! Read more

Our December 2019 Newsletter

December 16, 2019

Our featured project this month is a little different than our usual remodels — it’s in a home that is only 3 years old! While the majority of our projects are completed in homes that are 20 years old or more, this project is proof that new homes need remodeling, too! Our client’s existing bathroom included a spacious walk-in shower, but lacked the spa-like features and free-standing bathtub she always wanted. Although there was a lack of space, our team was able to convert the large shower into a wet room, providing a space for the bathtub and an upgraded shower.
