It’s hard to believe we are already over half way through 2018! Time is flying by and this year will be ending before you know it. Our team is thrilled to have had such a great first and second quarter and is looking forward to closing the year out strong. If remodeling your home has been on your to-do list for a while, now is the best time to get started! Here are 3 reasons mid-summer is the perfect time to begin your home remodeling project:

1. Finish in time for the holidays.

Summer is known as the busy season for contractors and remodelers, but it’s not until the fall and early winter that most homeowners really start to think about fixing up their home. The thought of family and friends coming to visit for the holidays can really bring into the light how much work needs to be done around the house! Unfortunately, waiting until that late in the game to start meeting with contractors and planning your project can greatly reduce the chances of completion before the holidays. If you’ve read our blog about the timeline of a major remodel, you know that most home remodeling projects take about 3 months to complete: allowing about 4-6 weeks for design and another 5-6 weeks for construction. Of course, this timeline can vary based on the size and complexity of the job, but trust us, a major remodel is NOT something you want to rush through! Trying to rush the process will not only put stress on you as the homeowner, but it can also create a snowball of negativity with everyone involved. Even a seasoned professional is more likely to make a mistake on the job if they are feeling pressed for time. By jumpstarting the project a few months early, you’re setting yourself up for a smoother, more positive experience and allowing for a more realistic timeline.

2. There are less distractions.

For many people, the summer months are when life is a little less hectic – there’s plenty of free time for family, travel, and vacations. This is why it’s the perfect time of year for you to determine what you really want in a remodel. You can take your time to consider the best options, discuss all of your questions and concerns with your contractor, and take the necessary steps to have your project financed. You also will be able to devote your focus on important design selection items, such as your paint colors, tile, countertops, flooring, and so on. As we have mentioned so many times: there is so much more involved in remodeling than most people realize. While our team of professionals is there to help every step of the way, it’s impossible for any contractor to complete a project if the clients are unable to make decisions when the time comes. The fewer outside distractions you have, the easier it will be to focus on the project at hand.

3. Sales! Sales! Sales!

Summertime is the ideal time to buy big-ticket items like appliances and flooring. Holidays like Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day are when department stores promote big sales and sky-high savings. If you are strategic in your shopping and purchasing, you can really find some fantastic deals. Part of the custom design packages we provide is the “Budget Items Worksheet,” which lists the appliances and other selection items you intend to use for your remodel. This worksheet allows us to lay out each item, along with it’s cost, added to the cost of materials and labor required for completion. This gives us a bottom-line number that serves as the total project cost. If the total ends up being too high or exceeds your specified budget, we can go back to those line items and see what needs to be swapped out for something cheaper. To an extent, you can control the total cost of your budget if you are smart about the selection items you choose. Summer sales definitely make this part easier on you!

As you can see, starting your home remodeling project in the mid to late summer can really be a beneficial move. You’ll be less stressed, be able to focus whole-heartedly on the project, and can even save money by taking advantage of the seasonal sales. Sounds like a “win-win-win” to us!
