Our community event spotlight this month features “Hungry for Creativity,” an art show fundraiser celebrating the stories and work of the art therapy group members of the Community Crossroads Outreach Center.

The Community Crossroads art therapy group serves people who are homeless and/or under-resourced and seeks to promote dignity, resilience, self-worth, and empowerment by promoting social change through the art therapy process. Art therapy at Community Crossroads has grown substantially over the last year, where individuals have described the group as a “beacon of light in a dark world” and a safe haven for expression.

Hungry for Creativity stemmed from an organic development within the art therapy group at Community Crossroads where group members began to ask for new ways to tell their stories to the community. This event represents a unique community collaboration between The Taste Project, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, and The Art Station. All proceeds from the fundraiser will be earmarked to perpetuate the Community Crossroads art therapy group.

The art show and fundraiser is taking place Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

At The Taste Project: 1200 South Main Street, Fort Worth, TX 76104.

About the Organization (Via https://www.theartstation.org/)

The Art Station is a nonprofit organization offering individual and group art therapy and community programs to children and adults.

Our mission is to provide a safe and encouraging environment where art making can be used to promote personal growth, uplift our hearts and help heal our minds and bodies.

Art therapy is defined as a human service profession that uses art media, images and the creative process to help individuals understand and communicate their thoughts, feelings, relationships, interests, concerns, and conflicts.

Through creating art and talking about art and the process of art-making with an art therapist, one can build confidence and self-esteem, develop self-awareness, practice problem-solving skills, learn to express feelings, reduce stress, fear, and anxiety, cope with traumatic experiences, and foster creativity.

Art therapists are professionals trained in both the visual arts and psychotherapy. They hold a master or doctoral level degree in art therapy or a related field. Art therapists work with children, adolescents, and adults and provide services to individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities.

What a wonderful organization with the sole purpose of helping people of all ages to better themselves in a creative way! For more information about the event, and to purchase tickets, check out the event post.

Kudos to our local community for hosting these types of events!

Warm Regards,
