3D Renderings vs. Finished Remodel

Written by Medford Design-Build | Mar 4, 2026 1:00:00 PM

If you are wondering how good of a representation 3D renderings are to the final results of a project, the short answer is: they are very close.

Renderings are clean, polished, and show the best version of what’s possible. But a remodel involves demolition, structural work, inspections, and months of coordination. So, it’s fair to wonder if the final space matches the vision crafted from a rendering.

At Medford Design-Build, we’ve had the privilege of bringing hundreds of remodel visions to life across Arlington, Colleyville, Fort Worth, Keller and other cities in Greater Tarrant County. Below, we walk through five real projects and show how the rendered vision compared to the finished results and what that meant for each family.

 1. Open Concept Living in Arlington, TX

The Rendering Vision:
An open, bright main floor where kitchen, dining, and living flows felt natural and connected.

Final Reality:
That vision became real when two major walls came down, a new patio door unit brought in daylight, and an L-shaped kitchen with a central island replaced the closed-off layout. Custom storage, hidden pull-outs, and intentional circulation enhanced both aesthetics and everyday function.

Why this matters:
This project shows how structural decisions, like where a wall goes, translate directly from the initial rendering to lived experience. The rendering gave the homeowners confidence to embrace a bold layout change.

 2. Kitchen & Family Room Transformation in Colleyville, TX

The Rendering Vision:
A refreshed kitchen that feels modern, functional, and anchored for family life.

Final Reality:
Renderings helped align everyone on layout, flow, and finish visions before demo. These planning visuals shaped decisions around cabinetry, circulation, and lighting that define how the room feels today.

Why this matters:
Kitchen remodels require a lot of decisions (appliance placement, cabinet heights, work zones) and renderings help homeowners step inside the future space long before construction boots are on site.

 3. Laundry + Mudroom Swap in Keller

The Rendering Vision:
A larger laundry room with countertop space, cabinetry, and a connected mudroom bench area.

Final Reality:
The before/after story shows exactly how thoughtful design can turn awkward circulation into purposeful flow. Swapping the smaller laundry room location with a larger adjacent room allowed for custom built-ins, improved storage, and a mudroom zone that feels like it belongs in the home just like the renderings predicted.

Why this matters:
Utility spaces often get overlooked in remodels, but a rendering ensures you improve both functionality and aesthetics.

 4. Home Office Conversion + Powder Bath in Colleyville

The Rendering Vision:
Convert a formal living room into a dedicated home office and add a convenient powder bath without expanding the home’s footprint.

Final Reality:
In this project, renderings helped verify layout reconfiguration before work began. The unused formal living space became a bright office with a custom grid glass wall for privacy and light, while a new powder bathroom solved a practical issue for everyday living.

Why this matters:
Renderings allow you to test how a space functions before construction starts.

 5. Porch Turned Home Bar in Fort Worth

The Rendering Vision:
Transform an underutilized outdoor patio into an inviting home bar and entertainment space.

Final Reality:
The vision became reality when the space was fully opened to create a welcoming flow from the main living area. Custom cabinetry and a countertop bar were installed exactly as planned, and lighting was positioned to highlight the bar while keeping the room inviting.

Why this matters:
Spaces that were once overlooked like patios, can be reimagined completely with the help of three-dimensional planning visuals.
