The Executive Retreat: A Fort Worth, TX Home Office Remodel

Written by Medford Design-Build | Jul. 15, 2026

Reimagine Your Workspace

A home office should support the way you work, while still feeling like part of your home. For this Fort Worth, TX remodel we created a workspace that earns its name: a true executive retreat - built for two!

The ‘Why’

This family had outgrown the way their home office was functioning. The existing layout was dominated by bulky built-in cabinets, leaving the room layout rigid and awkward. With two people now working from home regularly, the space simply couldn't keep up. They needed a home office that could support two independent workflows without feeling like a storage unit.

Design Goals

    • Accommodate workspaces for two working professionals
    • Redesign built-in cabinets for flexibility and organization
    • Improve lighting and electrical receptacle placement
    • Maintain storage without crowding the room
    • Match the home’s overall updated aesthetic

How We Did It

    • Design Package: A custom design package was created to include floorplans & 3D renderings of the new layout, a scope of work document with cost and timeline, and a budget items worksheet to outline allowances for selection items.
    • Desk Setup: The original built-in cabinets were removed to make way for a custom-built furniture-style desk tailored to each user's workflow.
    • Storage Solutions: The existing closet was retained for general storage, while a redesigned custom bookcase cabinet was repositioned to complement the new desk arrangement.
    • Finishes: Our in-house Interior Designer walked the homeowners through every selection item to formalize the final plan; from contrasting paint and stain tones, “Richelieu Walnut” wooden cabinet pulls, and updated fixtures to tie the office style to the rest of the home.

The Transformation

With a detailed plan in hand, the Medford Team got to work bringing this home office dream to life. The Medford’s team of skilled carpenters and vetted professionals customized every touch of the space with the highest level of detail and craftsmanship. Strategically placed LED can lights create a near-shadowless environment, while intentionally placed outlets and switches cater to the homeowner’s technology needs. The crew utilized hard surface floor protection coverings, zipper door systems and an air scrubber to minimize disruption to the rest of the home.

The Result

The Executive Retreat home office delivers two dedicated workspaces with generous storage and layouts personalized to each user. This family can now work side by side comfortably!

Why Our Process & Design Package Works

A great remodel starts with a conversation and a plan. Our design process means every decision is made intentionally before any demolition begins in the home. You see the finished room before the work begins, and our team coordinates every step of the way so you don't have to.
